Leia's story isn't exactly unknown. Tiny progeny of the Chosen One and a senator-princess gets sent to Alderaan, grows up to be a still-pretty-tiny senator-princess in her own right, helping to lead a rebellion. But deets are nice to have, and the Wookieepedia is long, so here are the deets.

Princess Leia Organa was the younger child of Anakin Skywalker (aka Darth Vader oops spoilers) and Padmé Amidala. After Padmé's death, she was given to Senator Bail and Breha Organa to be raised as a princess on the planet Alderaan. She had a happy, active childhood for the most part, though she was a bit too much of a tomboy to take entirely naturally to the fussier aspects of life as a princess.
